The role

The Naval Combat Systems 9LV Platform is a Linux based secure runtime platform upon which the 9LV CMS runs, and in which CMS and other product development and test is carried out, worldwide. The Pipeline Product consists of the 9LV Platform-specific development pipelines, development tools and infrastructure.

The Platform Development Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, deployment, test and documentation of 9LV Platform components, supporting Naval Combat Systems projects using the 9LV CMS computing platform in Australia and worldwide, in collaboration with the global 9LV Platform team.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Participate in close collaboration with the local Naval Combat Systems project and integration teams as required
  • Design and implementation of new 9LV Platform capabilities
  • Develop and evolve the existing capabilities
  • Consider cyber security impacts and implications in all aspects of development
  • Assist in addressing technology obsolesce
  • Investigate and address reported issues

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and 9 day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Experience with the products, development environment and the open source tools used to develop and support the software
  • Well-developed communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Good problem solving skills and the ability to develop creative and innovative solutions.
  • Broad understanding of technology and technology trends
  • Significant experience in software integration, continuous integration/delivery, test automation and DevOps tools and workflows covering technologies such as Kubernetes, and Jenkins
  • Experience with configuration management and automatic deployment tools such as Ansible, AWX


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
